Expression fields are used to calculate and display the results of the calculation on a column report, a Detailed report or a Quicklist report. The valid display types for expressions are:

| Number | Shown as a floating point number |
| Decimal | Shown in the specified decimal format |
| Currency | Shown in the specified currency format |
| Date | Shown as a date in the user's specified date format |
| Day | Shown as a date, minus the time component, in the user's specified date format |
| Text | Directly displayed as a sequence of the characters in the string |
The Default value of the expression field may store an expression that will be evaluated as the default when the field is placed on a report. See the section in this guide for Reporting and Querying for a discussion of valid expressions.
